Indian Ethnic Wear and Its Market Around the World

Gone are the days when India was just famous for its curries or Classical Music etc. Apart from being an I.T superpower, Indian Fashion in recent times has gained immense appreciation.

Off late, Indian ethnic designer clothing has captured the hearts of people all over the world.Certainly, the credit goes to Indian designers such as Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Manish Malhotra, Ritu Kumar and many more, who have put Indian fashion on the global map.

Well… there are so many reasons as to why the West is mesmerized by Indian Fashion. One of the prime reason is the centuries-old Indian tradition that can be seen in the design & artwork of many Indian dresses which reflects the vast richness of the land and its varied textile-heritage.

What is interesting to note is that, India’s inspiration has stood the test of time and Hollywood bears testimony to this fact. Thus from Julia Roberts to Victoria Beckham to Lady Gaga, many world celebrities have fallen for Indian ethnic designer wear and it has now become the new normal for celebrities from not only Hollywood but also from other walks of life. In fact Indian fashion has now got the White House too under its spell.

First Lady Michelle Obama, who is known for her multifarious sense of fashion has adorned Indian ethnic wear on quite a few occasions.

Again the advent of globalization and internet has given a perfect platform for Indian designers to seek out new avenues which enables them to create new designs and so today’s Gen- Y Fashion Designers have the freedom to experiment to a large extent and this is only possible as West & other countries with a western outlook have always been more liberal & accommodation of new fashion trends brought forth by emerging designers. No wonder Indian Ethnic Wear has many Markets Around the world and it’s point of sale happens to be both huge shopping malls & small street bazaars.

Moreover, there has been a lot of appreciation of Indian designs due to the magnetic influence of Bollywood which happens to be the true Ambassador of Indian fashion for people all over the world. Bollywood songs & dance has been the driving force behind the ready acceptance of Indian style & design trends. This has led to the emergence of Indo-western clothing since there has been a lot of mix & match happening over the years.
Indian NRIs have brought about a massive change in the way Indians have embraced western culture & so also westerners have got influenced by the desi culture introduced to them by Indians staying abroad etc.

Thus, the plethora of designs including the handcrafted intricate thread work & other art work was instrumental in increasing the acceptability of Indian clothing in the international textile market.

Apart from the wealth of talent coming from Indian designers & the enterprising spirit of the textile producers producing quality raw materials, the other thing that has become a game changer is the digital revolution sweeping the country. This revolution has indeed enhanced the synergy between the Apparel industry and fashion houses like never before.

All this has led to the tremendous growth of the Indian e-commerce fashion market, thus enabling easy access to thousands of products which in turn has allowed the emergence of good deals etc. for the customers thereby making it a win-win situation for the buyer as well as the seller.

According to a latest study by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) India’s fashion industry will continue to grow at an exponential rate and this trend is only going to get more diversified.
